My first design studio, September 2021.

One with nature is a concept based on an image of Jasper Abels. I find it an appropriate approach for ameliorating the park because of two main reasons:

1. The park already has many excisting aspects of nature. (Forest, open field and water.)
2. Wageningen as the city of life sciences should have a place in the city center where people can experience nature, different from the urban environment.

The inventory really was an eye-opener for me, because I eventually saw the park on it’s whole after a year living next to it. There are a lot of barriers for entering the park. Furthermore the park has some height differences, sunny or shadowy places, a lot of unused spaces, many trees and not to forget busy circulation around the park. In the analysis I defined 15 different zones, which each different characteristics. With black arrows I show routes people should be able to take more easily. Also in some zones I saw possible future uses for the site.

When creating the concept map I focused on bringing zones together and making it a more natural site on it’s whole. I also wanted to attract people from the surroundings and give people a nature-like experience. In the 1:500 masterplan I worked out my ideas and in the 1:200 I zoomed in at the south-east side of the site. In the 1:50 maps and sections you can see more details about size and matarials.
